Freeport Indonesia Hit by Two Explosions

The two small bombs that exploded near Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc.‘s Grasberg mine did not affect the operations.

“There are no victims and Freeport operations are running normally,” Pangaribuan said. “Police are investigating the cause of the explosions.”

The Grasberg mine is thought to be the world’s third largest copper reserve and makes up 40% of Freeport’s 93 billion pounds of total copper reserves.

Freeport’s Indonesian unit expects copper output at Grasberg to rise 6 percent this year to 1.2 billion pounds (544,316 tonnes) as it explores new areas in the mine in the remote province of Papua.
