Asarco plans to slowdown its copper production

The copper-use recession has caused a major domestic copper supplier to reduce output this spring. Tucson, Ariz.-based copper company Asarco temporarily shut its rod and cake plants in Amarillo, Texas, last week and has revealed its plans to make periodic slowdowns at its copper refineries in Amarillo and Hayden, Ariz., beginning this week as a response to a depressed copper market.

Asarco CEO Joseph Lapinsky said:

These measures have been necessary to bring production and inventory into line with sales.
